<t /><p class="bodytext">Suppose your own full brother,<n id="1" /> your son, your daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend should seduce you secretly and encourage you to go and serve other gods<n id="2" /> that neither you nor your ancestors<n id="3" /> have previously known,<n id="4" />

and then you are careful to observe all these commandments<n id="1" /> I am giving<n id="2" /> you today (namely, to love the <sc>Lordsc> your God and to always walk in his ways), then you must add three more cities<n id="3" /> to these three.

Moreover, the officers are to say to the troops,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Who among you<n id="2" /> has built a new house and not dedicated<n id="3" /> it? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else<n id="4" /> dedicate it.

In addition, the officers are to say to the troops, &#8220;Who among you is afraid and fainthearted? He may go home so that he will not make his fellow soldier&#8217;s<n id="1" /> heart as fearful<n id="2" /> as his own.&#8221;

For the <sc>Lordsc> your God walks about in the middle of your camp to deliver you and defeat<n id="1" /> your enemies for you. Therefore your camp should be holy, so that he does not see anything indecent<n id="2" /> among you and turn away from you.p>

you must take the first of all the ground&#8217;s produce you harvest from the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you, place it in a basket, and go to the place where he<n id="1" /> chooses to locate his name.<n id="2" />

The <sc>Lordsc> will force you and your king<n id="1" /> whom you will appoint over you to go away to a people whom you and your ancestors have not known, and you will serve other gods of wood and stone there.

When such a person<n id="1" /> hears the words of this oath he secretly<n id="2" /> blesses himself<n id="3" /> and says, &#8220;I will have peace though I continue to walk with a stubborn spirit.&#8221;<n id="4" /> This will destroy<n id="5" /> the watered ground with the parched.<n id="6" />

What<n id="1" /> I am commanding you today is to love the <sc>Lordsc> your God, to walk in his ways, and to obey his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances. Then you will live and become numerous and the <sc>Lordsc> your God will bless you in the land which you are about to possess.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;The day of your death is near. Summon Joshua and present yourselves in the tent<n id="1" /> of meeting<n id="2" /> so that I can commission him.&#8221;<n id="3" /> So Moses and Joshua presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

As for that prophet or dreamer,<n id="1" /> he must be executed because he encouraged rebellion against the <sc>Lordsc> your God who brought you from the land of Egypt, redeeming you from that place of slavery, and because he has tried to entice you from the way the <sc>Lordsc> your God has commanded you to go. In this way you must purge out evil from within.<n id="2" />p>

Beware that the heart of no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you turns away from the <sc>Lordsc> our God today to pursue and serve the gods of those nations; beware that there is among you no root producing poisonous and bitter fruit.<n id="1" />
