for the daughters of Manasseh were assigned land among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the descendants of Manasseh.p>

Simeon&#8217;s assigned land was taken from Judah&#8217;s allotted portion, for Judah&#8217;s territory was too large for them; so Simeon was assigned land within Judah.<n id="1" />p>

You saw everything the <sc>Lordsc> your God did to all these nations on your behalf, for the <sc>Lordsc> your God fights for you.<n id="1" />

One of you makes a thousand run away,<n id="1" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> your God fights for you<n id="2" /> as he promised you he would.<n id="3" />

But if you ever turn away and make alliances with<n id="1" /> these nations that remain near you,<n id="2" /> and intermarry with them and establish friendly relations with them,<n id="3" />

The <sc>Lordsc> drove out from before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. So we too will worship<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc>, for he is our God!&#8221;p>

If<n id="1" /> you abandon the <sc>Lordsc> and worship<n id="2" /> foreign gods, he will turn against you;<n id="3" /> he will bring disaster on you and destroy you,<n id="4" /> though he once treated you well.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

Joshua said to the people, &#8220;Do you agree to be witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to worship the <sc>Lordsc>?&#8221;<n id="1" /> They replied, &#8220;We are witnesses!&#8221;<n id="2" />

This law scroll must not leave your lips!<n id="1" /> You must memorize it<n id="2" /> day and night so you can carefully obey<n id="3" /> all that is written in it. Then you will prosper<n id="4" /> and be successful.<n id="5" />

&#8220;Go through the camp and command the people, &#8216;Prepare your supplies, for within three days you will cross the Jordan River and begin the conquest of the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is ready to hand over to you.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

So the king of Jericho sent this order to Rahab:<n id="1" /> &#8220;Turn over<n id="2" /> the men who came to you<n id="3" /> &#8211; the ones who came to your house<n id="4" /> &#8211; for they have come to spy on the whole land!&#8221;

For we heard how the <sc>Lordsc> dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you left Egypt and how you annihilated the two Amorite kings, Sihon and Og, on the other side of the Jordan.<n id="1" />

When we heard the news we lost our courage and no one could even breathe for fear of you.<n id="1" /> For the <sc>Lordsc> your God is God in heaven above and on earth below!

So now, promise me this with an oath sworn in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s name.<n id="1" /> Because I have shown allegiance to you, show allegiance to my family.<n id="2" /> Give me a solemn pledge<n id="3" />

But stay about three thousand feet behind it.<n id="1" /> Keep your distance<n id="2" /> so you can see<n id="3" /> which way you should go, for you have not traveled this way before.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> told Joshua, &#8220;This very day I will begin to honor you before all Israel<n id="1" /> so they will know that I am with you just as I was with Moses.

Joshua continued,<n id="1" /> &#8220;This is how you will know the living God is among you and that he will truly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

He answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Truly I am the commander of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s army.<n id="2" /> Now I have arrived!&#8221;<n id="3" /> Joshua bowed down with his face to the ground<n id="4" /> and asked, &#8220;What does my master want to say to his servant?&#8221;

The commander of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s army answered Joshua, &#8220;Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you stand is holy.&#8221; Joshua did so.p>

The city and all that is in it must be set apart for the <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="1" /> except for Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house, because she hid the spies<n id="2" /> we sent.
