But if we say, ‘From people,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

Jesus ¹  also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, ²  you say at once, ‘A rainstorm ³  is coming,’ and it does.

That is why ¹  I did not presume ²  to come to you. Instead, say the word, and my servant must be healed. ³ 

But ¹  those who were at the table ²  with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”

There was also a widow ¹  in that city ²  who kept coming ³  to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him, ¹  a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ ² 

But when they bring you before the synagogues, ¹  the ²  rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how you should make your defense ³  or what you should say,

But his citizens ¹  hated ²  him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man ³  to be king ⁴  over us!’

For this is certain: ¹  The days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore children, and the breasts that never nursed!’ ² 

But they persisted ¹  in saying, “He incites ²  the people by teaching throughout all Judea. It started in Galilee and ended up here!” ³ 

Then ¹  astonishment ²  seized them all, and they glorified ³  God. They were filled with awe, ⁴  saying, “We have seen incredible ⁵  things ⁶  today.” ⁷ 

Then ¹  he came up ²  and touched ³  the bier, ⁴  and those who carried it stood still. He ⁵  said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

Fear ¹  seized them all, and they began to glorify ²  God, saying, “A great prophet ³  has appeared ⁴  among us!” and “God has come to help ⁵  his people!”

Then ¹  when she has found it, she calls together her ²  friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice ³  with me, for I have found the coin ⁴  that I had lost.’

Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive ¹  him.”

But ¹  the Pharisees ²  and their experts in the law ³  complained ⁴  to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” ⁵ 

Then people ¹  will say to you, ‘Look, there he is!’ ²  or ‘Look, here he is!’ Do not go out or chase after them. ³ 

So ¹  he stretched out his hand and touched ²  him, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

But the other rebuked him, saying, ¹  “Don’t ²  you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? ³ 

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, ¹  for I am a sinful man!” ²
