but Saul learned of their plot against him. ¹  They were also watching ²  the city gates ³  day and night so that they could kill him.

When he arrived in Jerusalem, ¹  he attempted to associate ²  with the disciples, and they were all afraid of him, because they did not believe ³  that he was a disciple.

About three o’clock one afternoon ¹  he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God ²  who came in ³  and said to him, “Cornelius.”

About him all the prophets testify, ¹  that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins ²  through his name.”

When Herod ¹  had searched ²  for him and did not find him, he questioned ³  the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution. ⁴  Then ⁵  Herod ⁶  went down from Judea to Caesarea ⁷  and stayed there.

Immediately an angel of the Lord ¹  struck ²  Herod ³  down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died. ⁴ 

But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesus ¹  from the dead, never ²  again to be ³  in a state of decay, God ⁴  has spoken in this way: ‘I will give you ⁵  the holy and trustworthy promises ⁶  made to David.’ ⁷ 

yet he did not leave himself without a witness by doing good, ¹  by giving you rain from heaven ²  and fruitful seasons, satisfying you ³  with food and your hearts with joy.” ⁴ 

But Jews came from Antioch ¹  and Iconium, ²  and after winning ³  the crowds over, they stoned ⁴  Paul and dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead.

But after the disciples had surrounded him, he got up and went back ¹  into the city. On ²  the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe. ³ 

For Moses has had those who proclaim him in every town from ancient times, ¹  because he is read aloud ²  in the synagogues ³  every Sabbath.”

so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around ¹  for him and find him, ²  though he is ³  not far from each one of us.

Now while Gallio ¹  was proconsul ²  of Achaia, ³  the Jews attacked Paul together ⁴  and brought him before the judgment seat, ⁵ 

and said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” ¹  They replied, ²  “No, we have not even ³  heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Even some of the provincial authorities ¹  who were his friends sent ²  a message ³  to him, urging him not to venture ⁴  into the theater.

Some of the crowd concluded ¹  it was about ²  Alexander because the Jews had pushed him to the front. ³  Alexander, gesturing ⁴  with his hand, was wanting to make a defense ⁵  before the public assembly. ⁶ 

especially saddened ¹  by what ²  he had said, that they were not going to see him ³  again. Then they accompanied ⁴  him to the ship.

came ¹  to me and stood beside me ²  and said to me, ‘Brother Saul, regain your sight!’ ³  And at that very moment ⁴  I looked up and saw him. ⁵ 

and saw the Lord ¹  saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’

When they had stretched him out for the lash, ¹  Paul said to the centurion ²  standing nearby, “Is it legal for you to lash a man who is a Roman citizen ³  without a proper trial?” ⁴
