(Now the betrayer<n id="1" /> had given them a sign, saying, &#8220;The one I kiss is the man. Arrest him and lead him away under guard.&#8221;)<n id="2" />

So Pilate spoke to them again,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Then what do you want me to do<n id="2" /> with the one you call king of the Jews?&#8221;

Because he wanted to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them. Then,<n id="1" /> after he had Jesus flogged,<n id="2" /> he handed him over<n id="3" /> to be crucified.p>

After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

He told him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;See that you do not say anything to anyone,<n id="2" /> but go, show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering that Moses commanded<n id="3" /> for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.&#8221;<n id="4" />

When Jesus heard this he said to them, &#8220;Those who are healthy don&#8217;t need a physician, but those who are sick do.<n id="1" /> I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.&#8221;p>

Jesus<n id="1" /> said to them, &#8220;The wedding guests<n id="2" /> cannot fast while the bridegroom<n id="3" /> is with them, can they?<n id="4" /> As long as they have the bridegroom with them they do not fast.

Jesus<n id="1" /> gave them permission.<n id="2" /> So<n id="3" /> the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs. Then the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake, and about two thousand were drowned in the lake.p>

But<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> did not permit him to do so. Instead, he said to him, &#8220;Go to your home and to your people and tell them what the Lord has done for you,<n id="3" /> that he had mercy on you.&#8221;

Then<n id="1" /> Jesus said to them, &#8220;A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and in his own house.&#8221;

If a place will not welcome you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off<n id="1" /> your feet as a testimony against them.&#8221;

He said to them, &#8220;Come with me privately to an isolated place and rest a while&#8221; (for many were coming and going, and there was no time to eat).

He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He<n id="1" /> gave them to his<n id="2" /> disciples to serve the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.

He<n id="1" /> saw them straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. As the night was ending,<n id="2" /> he came to them walking on the sea,<n id="3" /> for<n id="4" /> he wanted to pass by them.<n id="5" />

He said to them, &#8220;Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written:p> <p class="otpoetry">&#8216;<b><i>This people honors me with their lips,i>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>but their hearti>b><n id="1" /> <i><b>is far from meb>.i>p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea Philippi.<n id="1" /> On the way he asked his disciples,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Who do people say that I am?&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> called the crowd, along with his disciples, and said to them, &#8220;If anyone wants to become my follower,<n id="3" /> he must deny<n id="4" /> himself, take up his cross,<n id="5" /> and follow me.

And he said to them, &#8220;I tell you the truth,<n id="1" /> there are some standing here who will not<n id="2" /> experience<n id="3" /> death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">As they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

He said to them, &#8220;Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?
