Bathsheba bowed down on the floor before ¹  the king. The king said, “What do you want?”

Pharaoh said to him, “What do you lack here that makes you want to go to your homeland?” ¹  Hadad replied, ²  “Nothing, but please give me permission to leave.” ³ 

Everyone ¹  in the world wanted to visit Solomon to see him display his God-given wisdom. ² 

King Solomon gave King Hiram of Tyre ¹  twenty cities in the region of Galilee, because Hiram had supplied Solomon with cedars, evergreens, and all the gold he wanted.

After this happened, Jeroboam still did not change his evil ways; ¹  he continued to appoint common people ²  as priests at the high places. Anyone who wanted the job he consecrated as a priest. ³ 

At that time the people of Israel were divided in their loyalties. Half the people supported Tibni son of Ginath and wanted to make him king; the other half supported Omri.

Ben Hadad ¹  said, “I will return the cities my father took from your father. You may set up markets ²  in Damascus, just as my father did in Samaria.” ³  Ahab then said, “I want to make a treaty with you before I dismiss you.” ⁴  So he made a treaty with him and then dismissed him.

One night in Gibeon the Lord appeared ¹  to Solomon in a dream. God said, “Tell ²  me what I should give you.”

So Hiram supplied the cedars and evergreens Solomon needed, ¹ 

Now ¹  let me give you some advice as to how ²  you can save your life and your son Solomon’s life.

The king responded, “Give the first woman the living child; don’t kill him. She is the mother.”

Now my father David had a strong desire ¹  to build a temple to honor the Lord God of Israel. ² 

The Lord told my father David, ‘It is right for you to have a strong desire to build a temple to honor me. ¹ 

After Solomon finished building the Lord’s temple, the royal palace, and all the other construction projects he had planned, ¹ 

He asked them, “How do you advise me ¹  to respond to these people who said to me, ‘Lessen the demands your father placed on us’?” ² 

He said, “You know that the kingdom ¹  was mine and all Israel considered me king. ²  But then the kingdom was given to my brother, for the Lord decided it should be his. ³
