2 Kings 20:20

Context

20:20 The rest of the events of Hezekiah’s reign and all his accomplishments, including how he built a pool and conduit to bring 1  water into the city, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. 2

Isaiah 7:3

Context
7:3 So the Lord told Isaiah, “Go out with your son Shear-jashub 3  and meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool which is located on the road to the field where they wash and dry cloth. 4

Isaiah 22:9-11

Context

22:9 You saw the many breaks

in the walls of the city of David; 5

you stored up water in the lower pool.

22:10 You counted the houses in Jerusalem, 6

and demolished houses so you could have material to reinforce the wall. 7

22:11 You made a reservoir between the two walls

for the water of the old pool –

but you did not trust in 8  the one who made it; 9

you did not depend on 10  the one who formed it long ago!

Isaiah 36:2

Context
36:2 The king of Assyria sent his chief adviser 11  from Lachish to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem, 12  along with a large army. The chief adviser 13  stood at the conduit of the upper pool which is located on the road to the field where they wash and dry cloth. 14

[20:20]  1 tn Heb “and he brought.”

[20:20]  2 tn Heb “As for the rest of the events of Hezekiah, and all his strength, and how he made a pool and a conduit and brought water to the city, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah?”

[7:3]  3 tn The name means “a remnant will return.” Perhaps in this context, where the Lord is trying to encourage Ahaz, the name suggests that only a few of the enemy invaders will return home; the rest will be defeated.

[7:3]  4 tn Heb “the field of the washer”; traditionally “the fuller’s field” (so KJV, NAB, NASB, NRSV); NIV “the Washerman’s Field.”

[22:9]  5 tn Heb “the breaks of the city of David, you saw that they were many.”

[22:10]  6 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[22:10]  7 tn Heb “you demolished the houses to fortify the wall.”

[22:11]  8 tn Heb “look at”; NAB, NRSV “did not look to.”

[22:11]  9 tn The antecedent of the third feminine singular suffix here and in the next line is unclear. The closest feminine noun is “pool” in the first half of the verse. Perhaps this “old pool” symbolizes the entire city, which had prospered because of God’s provision and protection through the years.

[22:11]  10 tn Heb “did not see.”

[36:2]  11 sn For a discussion of this title see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 229-30.

[36:2]  12 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[36:2]  13 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the chief adviser) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[36:2]  14 tn Heb “the field of the washer”; traditionally “the fuller’s field” (so KJV, ASV, NAB, NASB, NRSV).
