Acts 4:9

4:9 if ¹  we are being examined ²  today for a good deed ³  done to a sick man – by what means this man was healed ⁴  –

5:3 A great number of sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed people were lying in these walkways.

John 5:7

5:7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, ⁵  I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I am trying to get into the water, ⁶  someone else ⁷  goes down there ⁸  before me.”

[4:9]  ¹ tn This clause is a first class condition. It assumes for the sake of argument that this is what they were being questioned about.

[4:9]  ² tn Or “questioned.” The Greek term ἀνακρίνω (anakrinw) points to an examination similar to a legal one.

[4:9]  ³ tn Or “for an act of kindness.”

[4:9]  ⁴ tn Or “delivered” (σέσωται [seswtai], from σώζω [swzw]). See 4:12.

[5:7]  ⁵ tn Or “Lord.” The Greek κύριος (kurios) means both “Sir” and “Lord.” In this passage the paralytic who was healed by Jesus never acknowledges Jesus as Lord – he rather reports Jesus to the authorities.

[5:7]  ⁶ tn Grk “while I am going.”

[5:7]  ⁷ tn Grk “another.”

[5:7]  ⁸ tn The word “there” is not in the Greek text but is implied.
