Fear God, Not People

12:1 Meanwhile, ²  when many thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus ³  began to speak first to his disciples, “Be on your guard against ⁴  the yeast of the Pharisees, ⁵  which is hypocrisy. ⁶  12:2 Nothing is hidden ⁷  that will not be revealed, ⁸  and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

Hebrews 10:26-29

10:26 For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us, ⁹  10:27 but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury ¹⁰  of fire that will consume God’s enemies. ¹¹  10:28 Someone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death ¹²  without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ¹³  10:29 How much greater punishment do you think that person deserves who has contempt for ¹⁴  the Son of God, and profanes ¹⁵  the blood of the covenant that made him holy, ¹⁶  and insults the Spirit of grace?

The text is both a warning about bad things being revealed and an encouragement that good things will be made known, though the stress with the images of darkness and what is hidden in vv. 2-3 is on the attempt to conceal.
