[21:10]  1 tn Heb “drive out.” The language may seem severe, but Sarah’s maternal instincts sensed a real danger in that Ishmael was not treating Isaac with the proper respect.

[46:17]  2 sn That is, the year of Jubilee (Lev 25:8-15).

[21:42]  3 tn Or “capstone,” “keystone.” Although these meanings are lexically possible, the imagery in Eph 2:20-22 and 1 Cor 3:11 indicates that the term κεφαλὴ γωνίας (kefalh gwnia") refers to a cornerstone, not a capstone.

[21:42]  4 sn A quotation from Ps 118:22-23.

[21:43]  5 tn Or “to a nation” (so KJV, NASB, NLT).

[4:30]  6 sn A quotation from Gen 21:10. The phrase of the free woman does not occur in Gen 21:10.

[4:31]  7 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:11.
