[48:20]  1 tn Heb “to the end of the earth” (so KJV, NASB, NRSV).

[48:20]  2 tn Heb “redeems.” See the note at 41:14.

[52:11]  3 tn Heb “the vessels of the Lord” (so KJV, NAB).

[57:14]  4 tn Since God is speaking throughout this context, perhaps we should emend the text to “and I say.” However, divine speech is introduced in v. 15.

[17:15]  5 sn Heb “Yahweh-nissi” (so NAB), which means “Yahweh is my banner.” Note that when Israel murmured and failed God, the name commemorated the incident or the outcome of their failure. When they were blessed with success, the naming praised God. Here the holding up of the staff of God was preserved in the name for the altar – God gave them the victory.

[12:13]  6 sn A quotation from Prov 4:26. The phrase make straight paths for your feet is figurative for “stay on God’s paths.”
