They say, “Everything will be all right!”

8:12 Are they ashamed because they have done such disgusting things?
No, they are not at all ashamed!
They do not even know how to blush!
So they will die just like others have died. 4
They will be brought to ruin when I punish them,

Context13:10 “‘This is because they have led my people astray saying, “All is well,” 5 when things are not well. When anyone builds a wall without mortar, 6 they coat it with whitewash.
[8:11] 1 tn Heb “daughter of my people.” For the translation given here see 4:11 and the note on the phrase “dear people” there.
[8:11] 2 tn Heb “They heal the wound of my people lightly.”
[8:11] 3 tn Heb “They say, ‘Peace! Peace!’ and there is no peace!”
[8:12] 4 tn Heb “They will fall among the fallen.”
[13:10] 6 tn The Hebrew word only occurs here in the Bible. According to L. C. Allen (Ezekiel [WBC], 1:202-3) it is also used in the Mishnah of a wall of rough stones without mortar. This fits the context here comparing the false prophetic messages to a nice coat of whitewash on a structurally unstable wall.
