Psalms 104:15

104:15 as well as wine that makes people feel so good, ¹ 

and so they can have oil to make their faces shine, ² 

as well as food that sustains people’s lives. ³

[104:15]  ¹ tn Heb “and wine [that] makes the heart of man happy.”

[104:15]  ² tn Heb “to make [the] face shine from oil.” The Hebrew verb צָהַל (tsahal, “to shine”) occurs only here in the OT. It appears to be an alternate form of צָהַר (tsahar), a derivative from צָהָרִים (tsaharim, “noon”).

[104:15]  ³ tn Heb “and food [that] sustains the heart of man.”

[104:1]  ⁴ sn Psalm 104. The psalmist praises God as the ruler of the world who sustains all life.

[104:1]  ⁵ tn Heb “very great.”

[5:1]  ⁶ sn Psalm 5. Appealing to God’s justice and commitment to the godly, the psalmist asks the Lord to intervene and deliver him from evildoers.

[5:1]  ⁷ tn The meaning of the Hebrew word נְחִילוֹת (nÿkhilot), which occurs only here, is uncertain. Many relate the form to חָלִיל (khalil, “flute”).

[5:1]  ⁸ tn Heb “my words.”

[5:1]  ⁹ tn Or “sighing.” The word occurs only here and in Ps 39:3.
