Texts -- Psalms 56:6-13 (NET)

Context
56:6 They stalk and lurk ; they watch my every step , as they prepare to take my life . 56:7 Because they are bent on violence , do not let them escape ! In your anger bring down the nations , O God ! 56:8 You keep track of my misery. Put my tears in your leather container ! Are they not recorded in your scroll ? 56:9 My enemies will turn back when I cry out to you for help; I know that God is on my side. 56:10 In God – I boast in his promise – in the Lord – I boast in his promise 56:11 in God I trust , I am not afraid . What can mere men do to me? 56:12 I am obligated to fulfill the vows I made to you, O God ; I will give you the thank-offerings you deserve, 56:13 when you deliver my life from death . You keep my feet from stumbling , so that I might serve God as I enjoy life .

  • The title of this psalm identifies the writer as David. All but four of the psalms in Book 1 of the Psalter (Pss. 1-41) identify David as their writer, all except Psalms 1, 2, 10, and 33. The occasion of his writing this one ...
  • David recounted some of the reasons he needed God's help. Among other things he admitted his own sins were partly responsible for his sufferings (v.10). Mainly it was the opposition of evil people that accounted for his distr...
  • In Book 1 we saw that all the psalms except 1, 2, 10, and 33 claimed David as their writer. It is likely that he wrote these four as well even though they do not bear his name. In Book 2 the titles identify David as the write...

  • 20:11 This "And I saw"introduces something else John saw in this vision (cf. 19:11, 17, 19; 20:1, 4, 12; 21:1, 2). The continuation of chronological progression seems clear from the continued use of "And"to introduce new info...
