  Cursed is the one who trusts in man, Who leans on him for might. He turns away from God the Lord; His heart rejects what’s right. He’s like a bush out in the waste; Good times will pass him by. His place is parched and desolate, With none to hear his cry. But blessed the man who trusts the Lord; God is his hope and stay. He’s like a tree beside a stream; Its roots drink deep each day. It never fears in summertime; Its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a drought; Its fruit is always seen. Lord, may I never in mankind Place confidence or hope. A fruitless, barren state that brings, With none to help me cope. But may I always trust in You; Your Word will quench my thirst. You’ll give me strength for every trial; I’ll always put You first.

  Blest is the man who trusts the Lord, Dwelling each day upon His Word. He does not follow wicked advice, Nor side with mockers in his cries. Gladly God’s laws he does obey; On them he thinks both night and day. His confidence is in God’s way; Blest is this man! Blest is the man who trusts the Lord, Dwelling each day upon His Word. He’s like a tree beside water streams; Sending out roots, it’s always green. The summer heat it does not fear; Even in drought, no worry here. It bears much fruit year after year; Ever it thrives. Blest is the man who trusts the Lord, Dwelling each day upon His Word. He prospers always through all his days, For on God’s law his mind e’er stays. God watches o’er all righteous men, But all the wicked will not stand. Their way will perish from the land, Like chaff in wind. May I be one who trusts You, Lord, Dwelling each day upon Your Word. May I be like a tree by a stream, Bearing much fruit and always green. May I drink from Your Word each day, That I might stand firm, come what may. May I e’er prosper in Your way, And blest e’er be.

• [Jer 17:13] Ho! Ye That Thirst, Approach The Spring

  Ho! ye that thirst, approach the spring Where living waters flow: Free to that sacred fountain all Without a price may go. How long to streams of false delight Will ye in crowds repair? How long your strength and substance waste On trifles light as air? My stores afford those rich supplies That health and pleasure give: Incline your ear, and come to Me; The soul that hears shall live. Seek ye the Lord, while yet His ear Is open to your call; While offered mercy still is near, Before His footstool fall. Let sinners quit their evil ways Their evil thoughts forego; And God, when they to Him return, Returning grace will show. He pardons with o’erflowing love; “For,” hear the voice divine! “My nature is not like to yours, Nor like your ways are Mine: “But far as heaven’s resplendent orbs Beyond earth’s spot extend, As far My thoughts, as far My ways, Your ways and thoughts transcend.”
