Hymns
Genesis 19:1--30:43
-
[Gen 19:17] Haste, Traveler, Haste!
Haste, traveler, haste! the night comes on,
And many a shining hour is gone;
The storm is gathering in the west,
And thou art from home and rest.O far from home thy footsteps stray;
Christ is the life, and Christ the way,
And Christ the light; thy setting sun
Sinks ere thy morning is begun.Awake, awake! pursue thy way
With steady course, while yet ’tis day;
While thou art sleeping on the ground,
Danger and darkness gather round.The rising tempest sweeps the sky;
The rains descend, the winds are high;
The waters swell, and death and fear
Beset thy path, nor refuge near.O yes! a shelter you may gain,
A covert from the wind and the rain,
A hiding-place a rest, a home,
A refuge from the wrath to come.Then linger not in all the plain,
Flee for thy life, the mountain gain;
Look not behind, make no delay,
O speed thee, speed thee on thy way!Poor, lost, benighted soul! art thou
Wiling to find salvation now?
There yet is hope; hear mercy’s call:
Truth! Life! Light! Way! in Christ is all!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 21:19] Open Mine Eyes
Open mine eyes, dear Savior,
I thirst in the noontide heat,
I pine for refreshing waters
That murmur so cool and sweet.Refrain
Open mine eyes, dear Savior, now,
Open mine eyes to see
The well of Thy full salvation
That sparkles and flows for me.Open mine eyes, dear Savior,
I faint ’neath the burning sky,
And here, in a lonely desert,
For water in vain I cry.Refrain
Open mine eyes, dear Savior,
I know that the well is near;
But O that my strength were stronger,
Its mission more bright and clear.Refrain
Whence is the voice that calleth?
And what do mine eyes behold?
O Savior, my prayer is answered,
’Tis answered a hundred fold.Praise to Thy Name, dear Savior mine,
Joyfully now I see
The well of Thy full salvation
That sparkles and flows for me.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 22:8] Though Troubles Assail Us
Though troubles assail us and dangers affright,
Though friends should all fail us and foes all unite,
Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide,
The promise assures us, “The Lord will provide.”The birds, without garner or storehouse, are fed;
From them let us learn to trust God for our bread.
His saints what is fitting shall ne’er be denied
So long as ’tis written, “The Lord will provide.”When Satan assails us to stop up our path,
And courage all fails us, we triumph by faith.
He cannot take from us, though oft he has tried,
This heart cheering promise, “The Lord will provide.”He tells us we’re weak, our hope is in vain,
The good that we seek we never shall obtain,
But when such suggestions, our graces have tried,
This answers all questions, “The Lord will provide.”No strength of our own and no goodness we claim;
Yet, since we have known of the Savior’s great Name,
In this our strong tower for safety we hide:
The Lord is our power, “The Lord will provide.”When life sinks apace, and death is in view,
The word of His grace shall comfort us through,
Not fearing or doubting, with Christ on our side,
We hope to die shouting, “The Lord will provide.”Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 22:13] The Saints Should Never Be Dismayed
The saints should never be dismayed,
Nor sink in hopeless fear;
For when they least expect His aid,
The Savior will appear.This Abr’am found: he raised the knife;
God saw, and said, “Forbear!
Yon ram shall yield his meaner life;
Behold the victim there.”Once David seemed Saul’s certain prey;
But hark! the foe’s at hand;
Saul turns his arms another way,
To save th’invaded land.When Jonah sunk beneath the wave,
He thought to rise no more;
But God prepared a fish to save,
And bear him to the shore.Blest proofs of power and grace divine,
That meet us in His Word!
May every deep felt care of mine
Be trusted with the Lord.Wait for His seasonable aid,
And though it tarry, wait:
The promise may be long delayed,
But cannot come too late.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 24:31] Welcome, One And All
We are gathered today in our Sunday school,
With our hearts full of grateful praise;
We rejoice, we rejoice, as we hither come,
That the Lord doth direct our ways.Refrain
We would join in the song of welcome:
Welcome one and all today!
Let us strive with our might e’er to do the right,
And to seek for the lambs astray.We would go forth with zeal in our Master’s Name,
And would bring many wand’rers in;
We would tell them of Christ, who from glory came,
E’en to save them from death and sin.Refrain
One and all with a will let us work today,
To restore to the Lord His own;
Leading souls to the bright and the shining way,
Serving Jesus, and Him alone.Refrain

[Gen 24:56] In All My Lord’s Appointed Ways
In all my Lord’s appointed ways
My journey I’ll pursue;
Hinder me not! ye much loved saints,
For I must go with you.Through floods and flames, if Jesus lead,
I’ll follow where He goes;
Hinder me not! shall be my cry,
Though earth and hell oppose.Through duty, and through trials too,
I’ll go at His command;
Hinder me not! for I am bound
To my Immanuel’s land.And when my Savior calls me home,
Still this my cry shall be,
Hinder me not! come, welcome death;
I’ll gladly go with Thee!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 27:34] Poor Esau Repented Too Late
Poor Esau repented too late
That once he his birth-right despised;
And sold, for a morsel of meat,
What could not too highly be prized:
How great was his anguish when told,
The blessing he sought to obtain,
Was gone with the birth-right he sold,
And none could recall it again!He stands as a warning to all,
Wherever the Gospel shall come;
O hasten and yield to the call,
While yet for repentance there’s room!
Your season will quickly be past,
Then hear and obey it today;
Lest when you seek mercy at last,
The Savior should frown you away.What is it the world can propose?
A morsel of meat at the best!
For this are you willing to lose
A share in the joys of the blest?
Its pleasures will speedily end,
Its favor and praise are but breath;
And what can its profits befriend
Your soul in the moment of death?If Jesus for these you despise,
And sin to the Savior prefer;
In vain your entreaties and cries,
When summoned to stand at His bar:
How will you His presence abide?
What anguish will torture your heart?
The saints all enthroned by His side,
And you be compelled to depart.Too often, dear Savior, have I
Preferred some poor trifle to Thee;
How is it Thou dost not deny
The blessing and birth-right to me?
No better than Esau I am,
Though pardon and Heaven be mine;
To me belongs nothing but shame,
The praise and the glory be Thine.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:11] Nearer, My God, To Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.Refrain
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone.
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God to Thee.Refrain
There let the way appear, steps unto Heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee.Refrain
Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee.Refrain
Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.Refrain
There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest,
There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be, nearer my God to Thee.Refrain

[Gen 28:11] We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder
We are climbing Jacob’s ladder,
We are climbing Jacob’s ladder,
We are climbing Jacob’s ladder,
Soldiers of the cross.Every round goes higher, higher,
Every round goes higher, higher,
Every round goes higher, higher,
Soldiers of the cross.Sinner, do you love my Jesus?
Sinner, do you love my Jesus?
Sinner, do you love my Jesus?
Soldiers of the cross.If you love Him, why not serve Him?
If you love Him, why not serve Him?
If you love Him, why not serve Him?
Soldiers of the cross.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:15] I Want Jesus To Walk With Me
I want Jesus to walk with me,
I want Jesus to walk with me;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.In my trials, Lord, walk with me;
In my trials, Lord, walk with me;
When my heart is almost breaking,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.When I’m in trouble, Lord, walk with me;
When I’m in trouble, Lord, walk with me;
When my head is bowed in sorrow,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:17] Blest Hour, When Mortal Man Retires
Blest hour, when mortal man retires
To hold communion with his God;
To send to Heaven his warm desires,
And listen to the sacred word.Blest hour, when God Himself draws nigh,
Well pleased His people’s voice to hear;
To hush the penitential sigh,
And wipe away the mourner’s tear.Blest hour, for, when the Lord resorts,
Foretastes of future bliss are given;
And mortals find His earthly courts
The house of God, the gate of Heaven.Hail, peaceful hour! supremely blest
Amid the hours of worldly care;
The hour that yields the spirit rest,
That sacred hour, the hour of prayer.And when my hours of prayer are past,
And this frail tenement decays,
Then may I spend in Heaven at last
A never-ending hour of praise.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:17] How Awesome Is This Place
I see angels ascending, descending on a stairway from heaven to earth.
At the top stands the Lord, God of Abr’ham. He is mighty.Refrain
How awesome is this place, dear Father,
How beautiful the house of God.
Your Presence at the gate of heaven, it is good to be near.
It is good to be here.
How awesome is this place, oh Lord.I feel blessings ascending, descending on the hearts and the pray’rs of the saints
Through this fellowship, sweet, comes His pleasure. He is lovely!Refrain
To the Ancient of Days be the honor. He is worthy alone to be praised.
We will sing through the ages in Glory “You are Holy!!”Refrain

[Gen 28:17] Lo, God Is Here!
Lo, God is here! let us adore,
And own how dreadful is this place!
Let all within us feel His power,
And silent bow before His face.Lo, God is here! Whom day and night
United choirs of angels sing;
To Him, enthroned above all height,
The hosts of Heaven their praises bring.Gladly the toys of earth we leave,
Wealth, pleasure, fame, for Thee alone;
To Thee our will, soul, flesh, we give,
O take, O seal them for Thine own!Disdain, not, Lord, our meaner song,
Who praise Thee with a faltering tongue.
To Thee may all our thoughts arise
A true and ceaseless sacrifice.Being of beings, may our praise
Thy courts with grateful fragrance fill!
Still may we stand before Thy face,
Still hear and do Thy sovereign will.In Thee we move. All things of Thee
Are full, Thou Source and Life of all;
Thou vast unfathomable sea!
Fall prostrate, lost in wonder fall.As flowers their opening leaves display,
And glad drink in the solar fire,
So may we catch Thine every ray,
And thus Thy influence inspire.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:17] O Word Of God Above
O Word of God above,
Who fillest all in all,
Hallow this house with Thy sure love,
And bless our festival.Here from the font is poured
Grace on each sinful child;
The blest anointing of the Lord
Brightens the once defiled.Here Christ to faithful hearts
His body gives for food;
The Lamb of God Himself imparts
The chalice of His blood.Here guilty souls that pine
May health and pardon win;
The Judge acquits, and grace divine
Restores the dead in sin.Yea, God enthroned on high
Here also dwells to bless;
Here trains adoring souls that sigh
His mansions to possess.Against this holy home
Rude tempests harmless beat,
And Satan’s angels fiercely come
But to endure defeat.All might, all praise be Thine,
Father, co-equal Son,
And Spirit, Bond of love divine,
Where endless ages run.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Gen 28:17] Only Begotten, Word Of God Eternal
Only begotten, Word of God eternal,
Lord of Creation, merciful and mighty,
List to Thy servants, when their tuneful voices
Rise to Thy presence.Thus in our solemn Feast of Dedication,
Graced with returning rites of due devotion,
Ever Thy children, year by year rejoicing,
Chant in Thy temple.This is Thy palace; here Thy presence-chamber;
Here may Thy servants, at the mystic banquet,
Daily adoring, take the Body broken,
Drink of Thy chalice.Here for Thy children stands the holy laver,
Fountain of pardon for the guilt of nature,
Cleansed by whose water springs a race anointed,
Liegemen of Jesus.Here in our sickness healing grace aboundeth,
Light in our blindness, in our toil refreshment;
Sin is forgiven, hope o’er fear prevaileth,
Joy over sorrow.Hallowed this dwelling where the Lord abideth,
This is none other than the gate of Heaven;
Strangers and pilgrims, making homes eternal,
Pass through its portals.Lord, we beseech Thee, as we throng Thy temple,
By Thy past blessings, by Thy present bounty,
Smile on Thy children, and with tender mercy,
Hear our petitions.God in three Persons, Father everlasting,
Son co-eternal, ever blessèd Spirit,
Thine be the glory, praise and adoration,
Now and forever.Play source: Cyberhymnal
