[11:9]  1 tn Heb “and David went, going and becoming great, and the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, Lord of hosts] was with him.”

[16:26]  2 tn The Hebrew word אֱלִילִים (’elilim, “worthless”) sounds like אֱלֹהִים (’elohim, “gods”). The sound play draws attention to the statement. Many modern English translations render this term as “idols” here.

[16:26]  3 tn Or “the sky” (also in v. 31). The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

[14:17]  3 tn Heb “the name of David went out.”

[14:17]  4 tn Heb “and the Lord placed fear of him upon all the nations.”

[19:13]  4 tn Heb “and the Lord, what is good in his eyes, he will do.”
