17:25 for you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a dynasty ¹  for him. That is why your servant has had the courage to pray to you. ²

David Conquers the Neighboring Nations

18:1 Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. He took Gath and its surrounding towns ³  away from the Philistines. ⁴

[17:25]  ² tn Heb “That is why your servant found to pray before you.” Perhaps the phrase אֶת לִבּוֹ (’et libbo, “his heart”) should be supplied as the object of the verb “found.”

[18:1]  ³ tn 2 Sam 8:1 identifies this region as “Metheg Ammah.”

[18:1]  ⁴ tn Heb “from the hand of the Philistines.” Here “hand” is figurative language for “control.”
