[17:1]  12 tn Heb “tent curtains.”

[17:7]  11 tn Traditionally, “Lord of hosts.”

[20:1]  17 tn Heb “and it was at the time of the turning of the year, at the time of the going out of kings.”

[20:2]  19 tc The translation follows the MT, which reads “of their king”; the LXX and Vulgate read “of Milcom” (cf. 1 Kgs 11:5). Milcom, also known as Molech, was the god of the Ammonites.

[20:2]  20 tn Heb “and it was on the head of David.”

[20:2]  21 sn See the note on the word “talents” in 19:6.

[21:3]  21 tn Or “people.”

[21:3]  22 tn Heb “Why should it become guilt for Israel?” David’s decision betrays an underlying trust in his own strength rather than in divine provision. See also 1 Chr 27:23-24.

[21:5]  24 tn Heb “a thousand thousands and one hundred thousand.”

[21:17]  25 tn “and doing evil I did evil.” The infinitive absolute precedes the finite form of the verb for emphasis.

[21:17]  26 tn Heb “let your hand be on me and on the house of my father.”

[21:17]  27 tn Heb “but on your people not for a plague.”

[22:8]  27 tn Heb “and the word of the Lord was [i.e., came] to me saying.”

[22:8]  28 tn Heb “for my name.”

[22:14]  30 tn See the note on the word “talents” in 19:6.

[22:14]  31 tn Heb “a thousand thousands.”

[27:24]  31 tn Heb “anger was on Israel.”

[27:24]  32 tc The Hebrew text has “in the number,” but מִסְפַּר (mispar) is probably dittographic – note that the same word appears immediately before this. The form should be emended to בְּסֵפֶר (bÿsefar, “in the scroll”).

[28:4]  33 tn Heb “out of all the house of my father to become king over all Israel permanently.”

[28:4]  34 tn Or “for.”
