Context

2:19 So Bathsheba visited King Solomon to speak to him on Adonijah’s behalf. The king got up to greet 6  her, bowed to her, and then sat on his throne. He ordered a throne to be brought for the king’s mother, 7  and she sat at his right hand.

1 Kings 9:5

9:5 Then I will allow your dynasty to rule over Israel permanently, 8  just as I promised your father David, ‘You will not fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’ 9

[1:47]  2 tn The plural form is used in the Hebrew text to indicate honor and authority.

[1:47]  3 tc Many Hebrew mss agree with the Qere in reading simply “God.”

[1:47]  4 tn Heb “make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne.” The term שֵׁם (shem, “name”) is used here of one’s fame and reputation.
