[1:6]  2 tn Heb “did not correct him from his days.” The phrase “from his days” means “from his earliest days,” or “ever in his life.” See GKC 382 §119.w, n. 2.

[1:6]  3 tn Heb “and she gave birth to him after Absalom.” This does not imply they had the same mother; Absalom’s mother was Maacah, not Haggith (2 Sam 3:4).

[1:48]  4 tn The Hebrew text reads, “and the king said.”

[1:48]  5 tn Or “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who….” In this blessing formula אֲשֶׁר (’asher, “who; because”) introduces the reason why the one being blessed deserves the honor.

[1:48]  6 tn Heb “and my eyes are seeing.”

[3:18]  7 sn There was no one else in the house except the two of us. In other words, there were no other witnesses to the births who could identify which child belonged to which mother.

[8:41]  13 tn Heb “your name.” In the OT the word “name” sometimes refers to one’s reputation or honor. The “name” of the Lord sometimes designates the Lord himself, being indistinguishable from the proper name.

[14:14]  16 tn Heb “house.”

[14:14]  17 tn Heb “This is the day. What also now?” The precise meaning of the second half of the statement is uncertain.

[14:24]  19 tc The Old Greek translation has “a conspiracy” rather than “male cultic prostitutes.”

[14:24]  20 tn Heb “they did according to all the abominable acts of the nations.”

[15:13]  22 tn Heb “mother,” but Hebrew often uses the terms “father” and “mother” for grandparents and more remote ancestors.
