Deuteronomy 32:35
Context32:35 I will get revenge and pay them back
at the time their foot slips;
for the day of their disaster is near,
and the impending judgment 4 is rushing upon them!”
Deuteronomy 32:2
Context32:2 My teaching will drop like the rain,
my sayings will drip like the dew, 5
as rain drops upon the grass,
and showers upon new growth.
Deuteronomy 18:2
Context18:2 They 6 will have no inheritance in the midst of their fellow Israelites; 7 the Lord alone is their inheritance, just as he had told them.
Deuteronomy 18:14-15
Context18:14 Those nations that you are about to dispossess listen to omen readers and diviners, but the Lord your God has not given you permission to do such things.
18:15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you – from your fellow Israelites; 8 you must listen to him.
[1:7] 1 tn Heb “his words were.”
[1:7] 2 tn Heb “helped after” (i.e., stood by).
[1:7] 3 tn Heb “Adonijah.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“him”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[32:35] 4 tn Heb “prepared things,” “impending things.” See BDB 800 s.v. עָתִיד.
[32:2] 5 tn Or “mist,” “light drizzle.” In some contexts the term appears to refer to light rain, rather than dew.
[18:2] 6 tn Heb “he” (and throughout the verse).
[18:2] 7 tn Heb “brothers,” but not referring to actual siblings. Cf. NASB “their countrymen”; NRSV “the other members of the community.”
[18:15] 8 tc The MT expands here on the usual formula by adding “from among you” (cf. Deut 17:15; 18:18; Smr; a number of Greek texts). The expansion seems to be for the purpose of emphasis, i.e., the prophet to come must be not just from Israel but an Israelite by blood.
