10:22 Along with Hiram’s fleet, the king had a fleet of large merchant ships 1  that sailed the sea. Once every three years the fleet 2  came into port with cargoes of 3  gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. 4

13:22 You went back and ate and drank in this place, even though he said to you, “Do not eat or drink there.” 5  Therefore 6  your corpse will not be buried in your ancestral tomb.’” 7

[10:22]  1 tn Heb “a fleet of Tarshish [ships].” This probably refers to large ships either made in or capable of traveling to the distant western port of Tarshish.

[10:22]  2 tn Heb “the fleet of Tarshish [ships].”

[10:22]  3 tn Heb “came carrying.”

[10:22]  4 tn The meaning of this word is unclear. Some suggest “baboons.”

[13:22]  5 tn Heb “and you returned and ate food and drank water in the place about which he said to you, ‘do not eat food and do not drink water.’”

[13:22]  6 tn “Therefore” is added for stylistic reasons. See the note at 1 Kgs 13:21 pertaining to the grammatical structure of vv. 21-22.
