12:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! 1  Return to your homes, O Israel! 2  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” 3  So Israel returned to their homes. 4

15:18 Asa took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of the royal palace and handed it to his servants. He then told them to deliver it 5  to Ben Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, ruler in Damascus, along with this message:

1 Kings 20:39

20:39 When the king passed by, he called out to the king, “Your servant went out into the heat 6  of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. 7  He told me, ‘Guard this prisoner. [12:16]  1 sn We have no portion in David; no share in the son of Jesse. Their point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

[12:16]  2 tn Heb “to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:16]  3 tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

[12:16]  4 tn Heb “went to their tents.”

[15:18]  5 tn Heb “King Asa sent it.”

[20:39]  9 tn Heb “middle.”

[20:39]  10 tn Heb “man” (also a second time later in this verse).

[20:39]  11 tn Heb “if being missed, he is missed.” The emphatic infinitive absolute before the finite verbal form lends solemnity to the warning.

[20:39]  12 tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 75 pounds of silver.

[20:39]  13 tn Heb “your life will be in place of his life, or a unit of silver you will pay.”
