[16:5]  1 tn Heb “As for the rest of the events of Baasha, and that which he did and his strength, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Israel?”

[16:27]  2 tn Heb “As for the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his strength which he demonstrated, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Israel?”

[22:45]  3 tn Heb “As for the rest of the events of Jehoshaphat, and his strength that he demonstrated and how he fought, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah?”

[18:46]  4 tn Heb “and the hand of the Lord was on Elijah.”

[18:46]  5 tn Heb “and girded up his loins.” The idea is that of gathering up the robes and tucking them into the sash or belt so that they do not get in the way of the legs when running (or working or fighting).

[15:23]  5 tn Heb “As for the rest of all the events of Asa, and all his strength and all which he did and the cities which he built, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah?”

[15:23]  6 tn Heb “Yet in the time of his old age he became sick in his feet.”

[11:3]  6 tn Heb “wives, princesses.”

[11:3]  7 sn Concubines were slave women in ancient Near Eastern societies who were the legal property of their master, but who could have legitimate sexual relations with their master. A concubine’s status was more elevated than a mere servant, but she was not free and did not have the legal rights of a free wife. The children of a concubine could, in some instances, become equal heirs with the children of the free wife. The usage in the present passage suggests that after the period of the Judges concubines may have become more of a royal prerogative (cf. also 2 Sam 21:10-14).

[11:3]  8 tn Heb “his wives bent his heart.”

[22:19]  7 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Micaiah) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[19:11]  8 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the Lord) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[19:11]  9 tn Heb “tearing away the mountains and breaking the cliffs” (or perhaps, “breaking the stones”).

[8:46]  9 tn Heb “they”; the referent (your people) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[8:46]  10 tn Heb “the land of the enemy.”

[13:4]  10 tn Heb “the man of God.”

[13:4]  11 tn Heb “Jeroboam extended his hand from the altar.”

[13:4]  12 tn Heb “saying.”

[13:4]  13 tn Heb “dried up” or “withered.” TEV and NLT interpret this as “became paralyzed.”
