  Blessèd Jesus, at Thy Word We are gathered all to hear Thee; Let our hearts and souls be stirred Now to seek and love and fear Thee, By Thy teachings sweet and holy, Drawn from earth to love Thee solely. All our knowledge, sense and sight Lie in deepest darkness shrouded, Til Thy Spirit breaks our night With the beams of truth unclouded. Thou alone to God canst win us; Thou must work all good within us. Glorious Lord, Thyself impart!   All that’s good, and great, and true, All that is and is to be, Be it old or be it new, Comes, O Father, comes from Thee. Mercies dawn with every day, Newer, brighter than before; And the sun’s declining ray Layeth others up in store. Not a bird that doth not sing Sweetest praises to Thy Name; Not an insect on the wing But Thy wonders doth proclaim.   God of creation, all-pow’rful, all-wise, Lord of the universe, rich with surprise, Maker, Sustainer, and Ruler of all, We are your children—you hear when we call. God of the ages, through time’s troubled years, You are the one in whom hist’ry coheres; Nations and empires your purpose fulfill, Moving in freedom, yet working your will. God of redemption, who wrought our rebirth, Called out your church from the ends of the earth, Still you are Savior, put darkness to flight; Overcome sin by salvation’s pure light.   Jesus is God! The solid earth, The ocean broad and bright, The countless stars like golden dust, That strew the sky at night, The wheeling storm, the dreadful fire, The pleasant wholesome air, The summer’s sun, the winter’s frost, His own creation were. Jesus is God! The glorious bands Of golden angels sing Songs of adoring praise to Him, Their Maker and their King. He was true God in Bethlehem’s crib, On Calvary’s cross true God, He Who in Heav’n eternal reigned, In time on earth abode. Jesus is God! Let sorrow come, And pain, and every ill, All are worthwhile, for all are means His glory to fulfill; Worthwhile a thousand years of woe To speak one little word, If by that “I believe” we own The Godhead of our Lord. Jesus is God! O! could I now But compass earth and sea, To teach and tell the single truth, How happy should I be!   There’s not a tint that paints the rose, Or decks the lily fair, Or streaks the humblest flower that blows, But God has placed it there. There’s not of grass a single blade, Or leaf of loveliest green, Where heav’nly skill is not displayed, And heav’nly wisdom seen. There’s not a star whose twinkling light Shines on the distant earth And cheers the silent gloom of night, But God has given it birth. There’s not a place on earth’s vast round In ocean deep, or air, Where skill and wisdom are not found, For God is everywhere.
