1 Kings 2:32

2:32 May the Lord punish him for the blood he shed; ¹  behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he ²  – Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

1 Kings 12:16

12:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! ³  Return to your homes, O Israel! ⁴  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” ⁵  So Israel returned to their homes. ⁶ 

[2:32]  ¹ tn Heb “The Lord will cause his blood to return upon his head.”

[2:32]  ² tn Heb “because he struck down two men more innocent and better than he and he killed them with the sword, and my father David did not know.”

[12:16]  ³ sn We have no portion in David; no share in the son of Jesse. Their point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

[12:16]  ⁴ tn Heb “to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:16]  ⁵ tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

[12:16]  ⁶ tn Heb “went to their tents.”
