Ahab Dies in Battle

22:1 There was no war between Syria and Israel for three years. ¹

12:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! ⁸  Return to your homes, O Israel! ⁹  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” ¹⁰  So Israel returned to their homes. ¹¹ 

[22:1]  ¹ tn Heb “and they lived three years without war between Aram and Israel.”

[11:24]  ² tn Heb “and he was the officer of a raiding band.”

[11:24]  ³ tn The Hebrew text reads “when David killed them.” This phrase is traditionally joined with what precedes. The ancient Greek version does not reflect the phrase and some suggest that it has been misplaced from the end of v. 23.

[12:24]  ³ tn Heb “for this thing is from me.”

[12:24]  ⁴ tn Heb “and they heard the word of the Lord and returned to go according to the word of the Lord.”

[12:16]  ⁵ sn We have no portion in David; no share in the son of Jesse. Their point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

[12:16]  ⁶ tn Heb “to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:16]  ⁷ tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

[12:16]  ⁸ tn Heb “went to their tents.”
