[16:24]  3 tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 150 pounds of silver.

[16:24]  4 tn Heb “he built up the hill.”

[21:1]  3 tn Heb “after these things.” The words “the following episode took place” are added for stylistic reasons.

[21:1]  4 sn King Ahab of Samaria. Samaria, as the capital of the northern kingdom, here stands for the nation of Israel.

[22:38]  4 tn Heb “now the prostitutes bathed.”

[22:38]  5 tn Heb “according to the word of the Lord which he spoke.”

[13:32]  5 tn Heb “for the word which he cried out by the word of the Lord

[13:32]  7 tn Heb “Samaria.” The name of Israel’s capital city here stands for the northern kingdom as a whole. Actually Samaria was not built and named until several years after this (see 1 Kgs 16:24), so it is likely that the author of Kings, writing at a later time, is here adapting the old prophet’s original statement.

[20:1]  7 tn Heb “and he went up and besieged Samaria and fought against it.”

[20:10]  7 tn Heb “So may the gods do to me, and so may they add.”

[20:10]  8 tn Heb “if the dirt of Samaria suffices for the handfuls of all the people who are at my feet.”

[22:10]  8 tn Heb “were sitting, a man on his throne.”
