The Lord Gives Solomon Wisdom

3:1 Solomon made an alliance by marriage with Pharaoh, king of Egypt; he married Pharaoh’s daughter. He brought her to the City of David ¹  until he could finish building his residence and the temple of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. ²

3:15 Solomon then woke up and realized it was a dream. ³  He went to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the Lord’s covenant, offered up burnt sacrifices, presented peace offerings, ⁴  and held a feast for all his servants.

Solomon Moves the Ark into the Temple

8:1 ⁵ Then Solomon convened in Jerusalem ⁶  Israel’s elders, all the leaders of the Israelite tribes and families, so they could witness the transferal of the ark of the Lord’s covenant from the city of David (that is, Zion). ⁷

12:18 King Rehoboam sent Adoniram, ²⁶  the supervisor of the work crews, ²⁷  out after them, but all Israel stoned him to death. King Rehoboam managed to jump into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem. ²⁸

12:21 When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he summoned 180,000 skilled warriors from all of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin ²⁹  to attack Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

1 Kings 12:27-28

12:27 If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, ³⁰  their loyalty could shift to their former master, ³¹  King Rehoboam of Judah. They might kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.” 12:28 After the king had consulted with his advisers, ³²  he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people, ³³  “It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
