[8:22]  1 tn Or “heaven.”

[8:23]  2 tn Heb “said.”

[8:23]  3 tn Heb “one who keeps the covenant and the loyal love.” The expression is a hendiadys.

[8:23]  4 tn Heb “who walk before you with all their heart.”

[8:1]  5 tc The Old Greek translation includes the following words at the beginning of ch. 8: “It so happened that when Solomon finished building the Lord’s temple and his own house, after twenty years.”

[8:1]  6 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[8:1]  7 tn Heb “Then Solomon convened the elders of Israel, the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the fathers belonging to the sons of Israel to King Solomon [in] Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the city of David (it is Zion).”

[17:16]  8 tn Heb “out, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke.”

[1:10]  9 tn Or “bodyguard” (Heb “mighty men”).

[1:11]  10 tn Heb “Have you not heard?”

[1:11]  11 tn Heb “and our master David does not know.”

[1:12]  12 tn Heb “now, come.” The imperative of הָלַךְ (halakh) is here used as an introductory interjection. See BDB 234 s.v. חָלַךְ.

[1:12]  13 tn Or “so that.”

[1:2]  14 tn Heb “said to.”

[1:2]  15 tn Heb “let them seek for my master, the king, a young girl, a virgin.” The third person plural subject of the verb is indefinite (see GKC 460 §144.f). The appositional expression, “a young girl, a virgin,” is idiomatic; the second term specifically defines the more general first term (see IBHS 230 §12.3b).

[1:2]  16 tn Heb “and she will stand before the king.” The Hebrew phrase “stand before” can mean “to attend; to serve” (BDB 764 s.v. עָמַד).

[1:2]  17 tn Heb “and she will lie down in your bosom.” The expression might imply sexual intimacy (see 2 Sam 12:3 [where the lamb symbolizes Bathsheba] and Mic 7:5), though v. 4b indicates that David did not actually have sex with the young woman.

[1:2]  18 tn Heb “and my master, the king, will be warm.”

[1:29]  19 tn Or “ransomed my life.”

[26:39]  20 tn Grk “ground, praying and saying.” Here the participle λέγων (legwn) is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[26:39]  21 tn Grk “if it is possible.”

[26:39]  22 sn This cup alludes to the wrath of God that Jesus would experience (in the form of suffering and death) for us. See Ps 11:6; 75:8-9; Isa 51:17, 19, 22 for this figure.

[5:7]  23 tn Grk “in the days of his flesh.”

[5:7]  24 tn Grk “he”; the referent (Christ) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[5:7]  25 tn Grk “who…having offered,” continuing the description of Christ from Heb 5:5-6.

[5:8]  26 sn There is a wordplay in the Greek text between the verbs “learned” (ἔμαθεν, emaqen) and “suffered” (ἔπαθεν, epaqen).
