1 Kings 8:9

8:9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets Moses had placed there in Horeb. ¹  It was there that ²  the Lord made an agreement with the Israelites after he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Exodus 34:28

34:28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; ³  he did not eat bread, and he did not drink water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. ⁴ 

Deuteronomy 9:9

9:9 When I went up the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained there ⁵  forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing.

Deuteronomy 9:11

9:11 Now at the end of the forty days and nights the Lord presented me with the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

Deuteronomy 31:26

31:26 “Take this scroll of the law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God. It will remain there as a witness against you,

[8:9]  ² tn Heb “in Horeb where.”

[34:28]  ³ tn These too are adverbial in relation to the main clause, telling how long Moses was with Yahweh on the mountain.

[34:28]  ⁴ tn Heb “the ten words,” though “commandments” is traditional.

[9:9]  ⁵ tn Heb “in the mountain.” The demonstrative pronoun has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons.
