1 Kings 9:9

9:9 Others will then answer, ¹  ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who led their ancestors ²  out of Egypt. They embraced other gods whom they worshiped and served. ³  That is why the Lord has brought all this disaster down on them.’”

1 Kings 11:2

11:2 They came from nations about which the Lord had warned the Israelites, “You must not establish friendly relations with them! ⁴  If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” ⁵  But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them. ⁶ 

1 Kings 20:23

20:23 Now the advisers ⁷  of the king of Syria said to him: “Their God is a god of the mountains. That’s why they overpowered us. But if we fight them in the plains, we will certainly overpower them.

[9:9]  ³ tn Heb “and they took hold of other gods and bowed down to them and served them.”

[11:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “you must not go into them, and they must not go into you.”

[11:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “Surely they will bend your heart after their gods.” The words “if you do” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[11:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “Solomon clung to them for love.” The pronominal suffix, translated “them,” is masculine here, even though it appears the foreign women are in view. Perhaps this is due to attraction to the masculine forms used of the nations earlier in the verse.
