[2:8]  1 tn Grk “a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” The latter phrase uses the term σκάνδαλον (skandalon), denoting an obstacle to faith, something that arouses anger and rejection.

[2:8]  2 sn A quotation from Isa 8:14.

[2:8]  3 tn Grk “who stumble,” referring to “those who do not believe” in vs. 7. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[2:8]  4 tn Grk “to which they were also destined.”

[26:19]  5 sn See the note on King Agrippa in 25:13.

[26:19]  6 sn I was not disobedient. Paul’s defense is that he merely obeyed the risen Jesus. He was arrested for obeying heavenly direction and preaching the opportunity to turn to God.

[26:19]  7 tn According to L&N 1.5, “In Ac 26:19 the adjective οὐράνιος could be interpreted as being related simply to the meaning of οὐρανόςa ‘sky,’ but it seems preferable to regard οὐράνιος in this context as meaning simply ‘from heaven’ or ‘heavenly.’”

[10:21]  8 sn A quotation from Isa 65:2.

[15:31]  9 tn Verses 30-31 form one long sentence in the Greek but have been divided into two distinct sentences for clarity in English.

[11:31]  10 tn Grk “did not perish together with.”
