[12:9]  1 tn Heb “sold” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NAB “he allowed them to fall into the clutches of Sisera”; NLT “he let them be conquered by Sisera.”

[12:9]  2 map For location see Map1 D2; Map2 D3; Map3 A2; Map4 C1.

[12:9]  3 tn Heb “captain of the host of Hazor.”

[14:50]  4 sn The word “uncle” can modify either Abner or Ner. See the note on the word “son” in v. 51 for further discussion.

[15:2]  7 tn Heb “what Amalek did to Israel, how he placed against him.”

[15:2]  8 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Israel) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[1:3]  10 tn Heb “from days to days.”

[1:11]  13 tn Heb “if looking you look.” The expression can refer, as here, to looking favorably upon another, in this case with compassion.

[1:11]  14 tn Heb “handmaid.” The use of this term (translated two more times in this verse and once each in vv. 16, 17 simply as “servant” for stylistic reasons) is an expression of humility.

[1:11]  15 tn Heb “seed of men.”

[1:11]  16 tn Heb “a razor will not go up upon his head.”

[4:4]  16 tn Or “people.”

[17:55]  19 tc Most LXX mss lack 17:5518:5.

[28:1]  22 tn Heb “their camps.”

[28:1]  23 tc The translation follows the LXX (εἰς πόλεμον, eis polemon) and a Qumran ms מלחמה במלחמה ([m]lkhmh) bammilkhamah (“in the battle”) rather than the MT’s בַמַּחֲנֶה (bammakhaneh, “in the camp”; cf. NASB). While the MT reading is not impossible here, and although admittedly it is the harder reading, the variant fits the context better. The MT can be explained as a scribal error caused in part by the earlier occurrence of “camp” in this verse.
