The Prophets’ only aim Thou art: They sang the sufferings of their Lord, Thy life for ours a ransom given, Thy rising to ensure our Heaven. Ought not our Lord the death to die, And then the glorious life to live? To stoop; and then to go up on high? The pain, and then the joy receive? His blood, the purchase price lay down, Endure the cross, and claim the crown? Ought not the members all to pass The way their Head had passed before?   Have you not known, have you not heard That firm remains on high The everlasting throne of Him Who formed the earth and sky? Are you afraid His power shall fail When comes your evil day? And can an all creating arm Grow weary or decay? Supreme in wisdom as in power The Rock of Ages stands, Though Him you cannot see, nor trace The working of His hands.
