[9:14]  1 tn Heb “to meet them.” This may indicate purpose on Samuel’s part. The next sentence indicates that the meeting was by design, not just an accident.

[14:26]  2 tn Heb “and the army entered the forest, and look!”

[14:26]  3 tn Heb “and there was no one putting his hand to his mouth.”

[28:13]  3 tn Heb “gods.” The modifying participle (translated “coming up”) is plural, suggesting that underworld spirits are the referent. But in the following verse Saul understands the plural word to refer to a singular being. The reference is to the spirit of Samuel.

[30:3]  4 tn Heb “and David and his men came to the city, and look, it was burned with fire.”
