Solomon’s Wealth

1:14 Solomon accumulated ¹  chariots and horses. He had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horses. He kept them in assigned cities and in Jerusalem. ² 

2 Chronicles 4:2-4

4:2 He also made the big bronze basin called “The Sea.” ³  It measured 15 feet ⁴  from rim to rim, was circular in shape, and stood seven and one-half feet ⁵  high. Its circumference was 45 feet. ⁶  4:3 Images of bulls were under it all the way around, ten every eighteen inches ⁷  all the way around. The bulls were in two rows and had been cast with “The Sea.” 4:4 “The Sea” stood on top of twelve bulls. Three faced northward, three westward, three southward, and three eastward. “The Sea” was placed on top of them, and they all faced outward. ⁸ 

2 Chronicles 14:1

14:1 (13:23) ⁹  Abijah passed away ¹⁰  and was buried in the City of David. ¹¹  His son Asa replaced him as king. During his reign ¹²  the land had rest for ten years.

2 Chronicles 29:17

29:17 On the first day of the first month they began consecrating; by the eighth day of the month they reached the porch of the Lord’s temple. ¹³  For eight more days they consecrated the Lord’s temple. On the sixteenth day of the first month they were finished.

[4:2]  ³ tn Heb “He made the sea, cast.”

[4:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “ten cubits.” Assuming a cubit of 18 inches (45 cm), the diameter would have been 15 feet (4.5 m).

[4:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “five cubits.” Assuming a cubit of 18 inches (45 cm), the height would have been 7.5 feet (2.25 m).

[4:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “and a measuring line went around it thirty cubits all around.”

[4:3]  ⁵ tn Heb “ten every cubit.”

[4:4]  ⁷ tn Heb “all their hindquarters were toward the inside.”

[14:1]  ⁹ sn Beginning with 14:1, the verse numbers through 14:15 in the English Bible differ from the verse numbers in the Hebrew text (BHS), with 14:1 ET = 13:23 HT, 14:2 ET = 14:1 HT, 14:3 ET = 14:2 HT, etc., through 14:15 ET = 14:14 HT. Beginning with 15:1 the verse numbers in the ET and HT are again the same.

[14:1]  ¹¹ sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.
