2 Chronicles 11:16

11:16 Those among all the Israelite tribes who were determined to worship the Lord God of Israel followed them to Jerusalem ¹  to sacrifice to the Lord God of their ancestors. ² 

2 Chronicles 6:5

6:5 He told David, ³  ‘Since the day I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a temple in which to live. ⁴  Nor did I choose a man as leader of my people Israel.

2 Chronicles 33:7

33:7 He put an idolatrous image he had made in God’s temple, about which God had said to David and to his son Solomon, “This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will be my permanent home. ⁵ 

2 Chronicles 12:13

12:13 King Rehoboam solidified his rule in Jerusalem; ⁶  he ⁷  was forty-one years old when he became king and he ruled for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord chose from all the tribes of Israel to be his home. ⁸  Rehoboam’s ⁹  mother was an Ammonite named Naamah.

[6:5]  ³ tn Heb “saying.”

[6:5]  ⁴ tn Heb “to build a house for my name to be there.” Here “name” is used by metonymy for the Lord himself, and thus the expression “to be there” refers to his taking up residence there (hence the translation, “a temple in which to live”). In this case the temple is referred to as a “house” where the Lord himself can reside.

[33:7]  ⁵ tn Heb “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I chose from all the tribes of Israel, I will place my name permanently” (or perhaps “forever”).

[12:13]  ⁷ tn Heb “and the king, Rehoboam, strengthened himself in Jerusalem and ruled.”

[12:13]  ⁸ tn Heb “Rehoboam.” The recurrence of the proper name here is redundant in terms of contemporary English style, so the pronoun has been used in the translation instead.
