11:23 He wisely placed some of his many sons throughout the regions of Judah and Benjamin in the various fortified cities. ¹  He supplied them with abundant provisions and acquired many wives for them. ² 

2 Chronicles 20:2

20:2 Messengers ³  arrived and reported to Jehoshaphat, “A huge army is attacking you from the other side of the Dead Sea, ⁴  from the direction of Edom. ⁵  Look, they are in Hazezon Tamar (that is, En Gedi).”

2 Chronicles 13:8

13:8 Now you are declaring that you will resist the Lord’s rule through the Davidic dynasty. ⁶  You have a huge army, ⁷  and bring with you the gold calves that Jeroboam made for you as gods.

[11:23]  ¹ tn Heb “and he was discerning and broke up from all his sons to all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities.”

[20:2]  ³ tn Heb “they”; the implied referent (messengers) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “the Sea”; in context (“from the direction of Edom”) this must refer to the Dead Sea, which has been specified in the translation for clarity (cf. NEB, NLT).

[20:2]  ⁵ tc Most Hebrew mss read “from Aram” (i.e., Syria), but this must be a corruption of “Edom,” which is the reading of the LXX and Vulgate.

[13:8]  ⁵ tn Heb “the kingdom of the Lord by the hand of the sons of David.”

[13:8]  ⁶ tn Or “horde”; or “multitude.”
