17:5 The Lord made his kingdom secure; ¹  all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he became very wealthy and greatly respected. ² 

2 Chronicles 20:2

20:2 Messengers ³  arrived and reported to Jehoshaphat, “A huge army is attacking you from the other side of the Dead Sea, ⁴  from the direction of Edom. ⁵  Look, they are in Hazezon Tamar (that is, En Gedi).”

2 Chronicles 17:11

17:11 Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat tribute, including a load of silver. The Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.

[17:5]  ² tn Heb “and he had wealth and honor in abundance.”

[20:2]  ³ tn Heb “they”; the implied referent (messengers) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “the Sea”; in context (“from the direction of Edom”) this must refer to the Dead Sea, which has been specified in the translation for clarity (cf. NEB, NLT).

[20:2]  ⁵ tc Most Hebrew mss read “from Aram” (i.e., Syria), but this must be a corruption of “Edom,” which is the reading of the LXX and Vulgate.
