2 Chronicles 2:4

Context
2:4 Look, I am ready to build a temple to honor 1  the Lord my God and to dedicate it to him in order to burn fragrant incense before him, to set out the bread that is regularly displayed, 2  and to offer burnt sacrifices each morning and evening, and on Sabbaths, new moon festivals, and at other times appointed by the Lord our God. This is something Israel must do on a permanent basis. 3

2 Chronicles 7:20

Context
7:20 then I will remove you 4  from my land I have given you, 5  I will abandon this temple I have consecrated with my presence, 6  and I will make you 7  an object of mockery and ridicule 8  among all the nations.

2 Chronicles 26:18

Context
26:18 They confronted 9  King Uzziah and said to him, “It is not proper for you, Uzziah, to offer incense to the Lord. That is the responsibility of the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who are consecrated to offer incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have disobeyed 10  and the Lord God will not honor you!”

2 Chronicles 30:8

Context
30:8 Now, don’t be stubborn 11  like your fathers! Submit 12  to the Lord and come to his sanctuary which he has permanently consecrated. Serve the Lord your God so that he might relent from his raging anger. 13

2 Chronicles 30:24

30:24 King Hezekiah of Judah supplied 1,000 bulls and 7,000 sheep 14  for the assembly, while the officials supplied them 15  with 1,000 bulls and 10,000 sheep. Many priests consecrated themselves.

2 Chronicles 31:6

[2:4]  1 tn Heb “for the name of.”

[2:4]  2 tn Heb “and the regular display.”

[2:4]  3 tn Heb “permanently [is] this upon Israel.”

[7:20]  4 tn Heb “them.” The switch from the second to the third person pronoun is rhetorically effective, for it mirrors God’s rejection of his people – he has stopped addressing them as “you” and begun addressing them as “them.” However, the switch is awkward and confusing in English, so the translation maintains the direct address style.

[7:20]  5 tn Heb “them.” See the note on “you” earlier in this verse.

[7:20]  6 tc Instead of “I will throw away,” the parallel text in 1 Kgs 9:7 has “I will send away.” The two verbs sound very similar in Hebrew, so the discrepancy is likely due to an oral transmissional error.

[7:20]  7 tn Heb “him,” which appears in context to refer to Israel (i.e., “you” in direct address). Many translations understand the direct object of the verb “make” to be the temple (NEB, NASB, NIV, NRSV “it”).

[7:20]  8 tn Heb “and I will make him [i.e., Israel] a proverb and a taunt,” that is, a proverbial example of destruction and an object of reproach.

[26:18]  7 tn Heb “stood against.”

[26:18]  8 tn Or “been unfaithful.”

[30:8]  10 tn Heb “don’t stiffen your neck” (a Hebrew idiom for being stubborn).

[30:8]  11 tn Heb “give a hand.” On the meaning of the idiom here, see HALOT 387 s.v. I יָד 2.

[30:8]  12 tn Heb “so that the rage of his anger might turn from you.” The jussive with vav conjunctive indicates purpose/result after the preceding imperative.

[30:24]  13 tn The Hebrew term צֹאן (tson, translated “sheep” twice in this verse) denotes smaller livestock in general; depending on context it can refer to sheep only or goats only, but their is nothing in the immediate context here to specify one or the other.

[30:24]  14 tn Heb “the assembly.” The pronoun “them” has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy.

[31:6]  16 tn Heb “and the sons of Israel and Judah.”

[31:6]  17 tn Heb “heaps, heaps.” Repetition of the noun draws attention to the large number of heaps.
