She hid him and his nurse in the room where the bed covers were stored. So Jehoshabeath the daughter of King Jehoram, wife of Jehoiada the priest and sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah so she could not execute him.

[20:2]  1 tn Heb “they”; the implied referent (messengers) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:2]  2 tn Heb “the Sea”; in context (“from the direction of Edom”) this must refer to the Dead Sea, which has been specified in the translation for clarity (cf. NEB, NLT).

[20:2]  3 tc Most Hebrew mss read “from Aram” (i.e., Syria), but this must be a corruption of “Edom,” which is the reading of the LXX and Vulgate.

[25:20]  4 tn Heb “did not listen.”

[25:20]  5 tn Heb “because it was from God in order to give them into the hand because they sought the gods of Edom.”
