2 Chronicles 22:9

22:9 He looked for Ahaziah, who was captured while hiding in Samaria. ¹  They brought him to Jehu and then executed him. They did give him a burial, for they reasoned, ²  “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with his whole heart.” There was no one in Ahaziah’s family strong enough to rule in his place. ³ 

2 Chronicles 36:10

36:10 At the beginning of the year King Nebuchadnezzar ordered him to be brought ⁴  to Babylon, along with the valuable items in the Lord’s temple. In his place he made his relative ⁵  Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

[22:9]  ³ tn Heb “and there was no one belonging to the house of Ahaziah to retain strength for kingship.”

[36:10]  ⁴ tn Heb “sent and brought him.”

[36:10]  ⁵ tn Heb “and he made Zedekiah his brother king.” According to the parallel text in 2 Kgs 24:17, Zedekiah was Jehoiachin’s uncle, not his brother. Therefore many interpreters understand אח here in its less specific sense of “relative” (NEB “made his father’s brother Zedekiah king”; NASB “made his kinsman Zedekiah king”; NIV “made Jehoiachin’s uncle, Zedekiah, king”; NRSV “made his brother Zedekiah king”).
