2 Chronicles 24:23

Context

24:23 At the beginning 1  of the year the Syrian army attacked 2  Joash 3  and invaded Judah and Jerusalem. They wiped out all the leaders of the people and sent all the plunder they gathered to the king of Damascus.

28:5 The Lord his God handed him over to the king of Syria. The Syrians 4  defeated him and deported many captives to Damascus. 5  He was also handed over to the king of Israel, who thoroughly defeated him. 6

28:23 He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus whom he thought had defeated him. 7  He reasoned, 8  “Since the gods of the kings of Damascus helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they caused him and all Israel to stumble.
