2 Chronicles 24:25

Context
24:25 When they withdrew, they left Joash 1  badly wounded. His servants plotted against him because of what he had done to 2  the son 3  of Jehoiada the priest. They murdered him on his bed. Thus 4  he died and was buried in the City of David, 5  but not in the tombs of the kings.

2 Chronicles 26:10

Context
26:10 He built towers in the desert and dug many cisterns, for he owned many herds in the lowlands 6  and on the plain. He had workers in the fields and vineyards in the hills and in Carmel, 7  for he loved agriculture. 8

2 Chronicles 32:4

Context
32:4 A large number of people gathered together and stopped up all the springs and the stream that flowed through the district. 9  They reasoned, 10  “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find plenty of water?”

[24:25]  1 tn Heb “him”; the referent (Joash) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[24:25]  2 tn Heb “because of the shed blood of.”

[24:25]  3 tc The MT has the plural בְּנֵי (bÿney, “sons”), but the final yod is dittographic. Note the yod that immediately follows.

[24:25]  4 tn Heb “and he died.”

[24:25]  5 sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.

[26:10]  6 tn Heb “Shephelah.”

[26:10]  7 tn Heb “workers and vinedressers in the hills and in Carmel.” The words “he had” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[26:10]  8 tn Heb “for a lover of the ground he [was].”

[32:4]  11 tn Heb “and they closed up all the springs and the stream that flows in the midst of the land.” Here אָרֶץ (’arets, “land”) does not refer to the entire land, but to a smaller region like a district.

[32:4]  12 tn Heb “land, saying.”
