Context25:23 King Joash of Israel captured King Amaziah of Judah, son of Joash son of Jehoahaz, in Beth Shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. He broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate – a distance of about six hundred feet. 1

Context32:9 Afterward King Sennacherib of Assyria, while attacking Lachish with all his military might, sent his messengers 2 to Jerusalem. The message was for King Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of 3 Judah who were in Jerusalem. It read:

Context35:24 So his servants took him out of the chariot, put him in another chariot that he owned, and brought him to Jerusalem, 4 where he died. He was buried in the tombs of his ancestors; 5 all the people of Judah and Jerusalem mourned Josiah.


[25:23] 1 tn Heb “400 cubits.” Assuming a cubit of 18 inches (45 cm), the distance would have been about 600 feet (180 m).
[32:9] 3 tn Heb “all Judah.” The words “the people of” are supplied in the translation for clarity. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” here by metonymy for the people of Judah.
