Solomon Dedicates the Temple

7:1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven ¹  and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the Lord’s splendor filled the temple.

2 Chronicles 28:3

28:3 He offered sacrifices in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom and passed his sons through the fire, ²  a horrible sin practiced by the nations ³  whom the Lord drove out before the Israelites.

2 Chronicles 35:13

35:13 They cooked the Passover sacrifices over the open fire as prescribed and cooked the consecrated offerings in pots, kettles, and pans. They quickly served them to all the people.

2 Chronicles 36:19

36:19 They burned down the Lord’s temple and tore down the wall of Jerusalem. ⁴  They burned all its fortified buildings and destroyed all its valuable items.

[7:1]  ¹ tn Or “the sky.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

[28:3]  ² sn This may refer to child sacrifice, though some interpret it as a less drastic cultic practice (NEB “burnt his sons in the fire”; NASB “burned his sons in the fire”; NIV “sacrificed his sons in the fire”; NRSV “made his sons pass through fire”).
