2 Chronicles 7:12

7:12 the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him: “I have answered ¹  your prayer and chosen this place to be my temple where sacrifices are to be made. ² 

2 Chronicles 34:25

34:25 This will happen because they have abandoned me and offered sacrifices ³  to other gods, angering me with all the idols they have made. ⁴  My anger will ignite against this place and will not be extinguished!’”

The Building of the Temple

3:1 Solomon began building the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem ⁵  on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David prepared at the threshing floor of Ornan ⁶  the Jebusite.

[7:12]  ¹ tn Heb “I have heard.”

[7:12]  ² tn Heb “temple of sacrifice.” This means the Lord designated the temple as the place for making sacrifices, and this has been clarified in the translation.

[34:25]  ³ tn Or “burned incense.”

[34:25]  ⁴ tn Heb “angering me with all the work of their hands.” The present translation assumes this refers to idols they have manufactured (note the preceding reference to “other gods”). However, it is possible that this is a general reference to their sinful practices, in which case one might translate, “angering me by all the things they do.”
