2 Chronicles 7:8-11

Context
7:8 At that time Solomon and all Israel with him celebrated a festival for seven days. This great assembly included people from Lebo Hamath in the north to the Brook of Egypt in the south. 1  7:9 On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had dedicated the altar for seven days and celebrated the festival for seven more days. 7:10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon 2  sent the people home. They left 3  happy and contented 4  because of the good the Lord had done for David, Solomon, and his people Israel.

[7:8]  1 tn Heb “Solomon held the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel was with him, a very great assembly from Lebo Hamath to the wadi of Egypt.”

[7:10]  2 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Solomon) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[7:10]  3 tn The words “they left” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[7:10]  4 tn Heb “good of heart.”

[7:11]  5 tn Heb “and all that entered the heart of Solomon to do in the house of the Lord and in his house he successfully accomplished.”

[8:18]  6 tn Heb “He”; the referent (Ezra) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[8:18]  7 tn Heb “the last day.”

[8:18]  8 tn Heb “on the eighth day an assembly.” The words “they held” have been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[8:18]  9 tn Heb “according to the judgment.”

[7:37]  10 sn There is a problem with the identification of this reference to the last day of the feast, the greatest day: It appears from Deut 16:13 that the feast went for seven days. Lev 23:36, however, makes it plain that there was an eighth day, though it was mentioned separately from the seven. It is not completely clear whether the seventh or eighth day was the climax of the feast, called here by the author the “last great day of the feast.” Since according to the Mishnah (m. Sukkah 4.1) the ceremonies with water and lights did not continue after the seventh day, it seems more probable that this is the day the author mentions.

[7:37]  11 tn Grk “Jesus stood up and cried out, saying.”
